Tennyson Eugene Dickerson

Tennyson Eugene “Gene” Dickerson passed away on December 28th, 2021. Eugene was born on September 19th, 1943 in Newfoundland, Kentucky to the late Linza and Mabel Boggs Dickerson. He grew up on the family farm raising animals and growing vegetables with his two older sisters and younger brother. His love for gardening continued all his life, growing his own vegetables was the surest way to enjoy his favorite supper of corn, tomatoes, beans, and fried potatoes. Eugene met his future wife, Sheila, at an Elliott County basketball game. Eugene impressed Sheila with his strong work ethic, curly blond hair, and fast motorcycle. They later married on June 20th, 1970 and shared 51 years together. Eugene and Sheila started a family and had three daughters. He was a truck driver for most of his life hauling coal, propane, and cars. He especially enjoyed driving down south and hauling watermelons. Later in life he was a bus driver for Elliott County schools, even though he thought it was the most challenging job his family would tell you he excelled at it. His hobbies included drag racing, tinkering on cars, watching NASCAR races, and attending local bluegrass music festivals. Eugene leaves behind his wife, Sheila Ison Dickerson and three daughters Gina (Jerry) Jenkins of Stark Ridge, Stacey (Dean) Fultz of Frenchburg, and Kendra Dickerson of Covington. He was Pa to Kelsey (Justin) Caudill of Stark Ridge, Jessie Jenkins of Richmond, Austin Jenkins of Stark Ridge, and Parker Caudill of Stark Ridge. He was a brother to Garnetta (Willie) Pennington of Morehead, Kentucky and Austin (Kay) Dickerson of Sandy Hook. He was also an uncle to several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn (Bill) Barnes and three infant siblings. He was a man of few words, but he always showed his family they were loved. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Monday, January 3rd, 2022 at Whitt and Sons Funeral Home with Rick Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at the Adkins Cemetery in Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Friends may visit Monday, January 3rd, 2022 from 12:00pm until the service hour at Whitt and Sons Funeral Home. The family requests all visitors wear a face mask.
