Phillip Clark Atkins

Phillip Clark Atkins age 79 of Sandy Hook, Kentucky passed away Friday, July 17, 2026, at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Atkins was born December 09, 1946, at Elliott Co, Kentucky a son of the John Nevel and Cynthia Ellen Ratcliff Atkins. Phillip was of the Christian faith; he spent his life building lasting friendships and working hard. He dedicated many years to the coal industry, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the eastern United States. Known for his integrity, knowledge, and work ethic, Phillip formed friendships that lasted a lifetime and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Phillip found his greatest joy in spending time with his family. He loved welcoming friends into his home, treasured every visit, and enjoyed many years on the golf course. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or simply enjoying the company of those he loved, he made every moment memorable. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome, he lit up every room he entered, and it seemed that no matter where he went, he always knew someone. His warm smile, generous heart, quick wit, and unforgettable stories made him someone people were naturally drawn to. Everyone who knew Phillip had something kind to say about him-and usually a good story to tell. His legacy is one of friendship, kindness, hard work, and unwavering love for his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son; Sean Clark Atkins. He is survived by his loving family of one son; Todd Atkins (Jenny) of Ashland, Kentucky, one daughter; Sophia Atkins of Russellville, Kentucky, one brother; Bernal Paul Atkins (Pamela) of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, four grandchildren; Seth Atkins, Josie Atkins, Meagan Atkins, and Ryan Atkins. Three great grandchildren; Isla Gibbs, Charlotte Atkins, and Lucy Atkins, along with nephew, niece, extended family and countless friends who will sadly mourn his passing. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Whitt & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook. Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, July 22, 2026, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service hour Thursday. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are; Todd Atkins, Ryan Atkins, Seth Atkins, Bernal Atkins, Bernal Jo Atkins, and Robb Warren.
