Mary Lois Skaggs

Mary Lois Skaggs, aged 60 passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home in Mazie, Kentucky on January 4,20204. Lois was born on April 8, 1963 in Morgan Co, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Arthur Orban and Nora Marie Fyffe Barker. Her life was a tapestry of love, family, cherished moments, and a strong sense of devotion to helping others. Lois was a graduate of Elliot County High School in 1982. She married the love of her life, Michael Jerry Skaggs in Clintwood, Virgina on Feburary 28*, 1981. Together they raised two sons Jonathan and Brandon. As her boys became school aged Lois began working at the Isonville Elementary School. A few years later she started her career as a CNA at the Elliot County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Over the course of her 27 years there, she cared for many special people, and was blessed with co-workers that became her life-long friends. Everyone knew that she loved her work and she was extremely devoted to the people she served. Lois loved making a difference in the lives of the individuals she worked with. Her passion in life was helping and caring for others. She was always the first one to offer a kind word or an extra hand both at work or at home. She was devoted to her family and spent many years caring for her parents and was known to go out of her way to do special things for her children, grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews. Lois loved to cook for her family and she was known for her amazing cornbread, green beans, fried potatoes and her grandchildren especially looked forward to her peanut butter fudge, no-bake cookies, and buckeyes that she would make them during the holidays. She dedicated her life to serving others and caring for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and husband were the lights of her life. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one sister in law;Barbara Barker. She is survived by her husband, Mike, her two sons, Brandon, and Jonathan (Sheena), her siblings, Sheril (Mike) Evans, Debbie (Dale) Ison, Caroline Barker, and Danny Barker. She is also survived by her grandsons Parker and Braden, many nieces and nephews, as well as several other chosen grandchildren. Lois' life was a testament to the enduring power of love, family, faith, and the joy of embracing life's simple pleasures. Lois loved to garden and every year she enjoyed growing her own vegetables for canning. She spent countless hours working in her flower gardens, she particularly loved lilies and had hundreds of different types and colors of Lillie's all through her yard. Her warm and welcoming spirit, will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She has left a permanent mark on the hearts of her loved ones, and her memory will forever shine brightly in their hearts and minds. Lois opened her home and heart to everyone and touched many lives. We may have lost an angel on Earth, but God has gained an angel in heaven. Her beautiful smile and sweet demeanor will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m Wednesday January 10, 2024 at Whitt & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dewayne Laney and Steven Whitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Burt Evans Memorial Cemetery at Webbville, Kentucky. Friends may visit after 6:00 p.m Tuesday, January 9, 2024 and anytime after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the service hour at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers are family and friends.
