Alva Ray Markwell

Alva Ray Markwell age 83 of Elliott County, Kentucky passed away Tuesday evening, September 24, 2013 at his residence. Mr. Markwell was born May 16, 1930 in Elliott County, Kentucky a son of the late Cecil and Maudie Belle Knipp Markwell. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one daughter; Connie Sue Markwell, four brothers; Hazel Markwell, Willard Markwell, Milton R. Markwell, and Willis Earl Markwell. Two sisters; Nola Thornsberry, and Veda Jewell Markwell,One grandson; Kevin Markwell. Ray was a Christian and attended the Grundy United Baptist Church, he retired with 32 years of service at CSX Railroad where he worked as a Machinist. He also was the former owner of Markwell Trucking,worked at Westing House in Mansfield, Ohio, Farmer and was a School Bus Driver. Among his many things he enjoyed farming, and spending time with his precious family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years; Glenna Maggard Markwell, four sons and daughters in-law; Ervin and Sandra Markwell, Chester and Sheila Markwell all of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Roger and Teresa Markwell of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Logan and Stephanie Markwell of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Four daughters and sons in-law; Wilma and Lewis Leadingham of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Lenora and Ricky Lyons of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Kathy and Richard Glancy of Grayson, Kentucky, Karen and Mattie DeHart of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Three brothers and sister in-law; Tracy Markwell of Mansfield, Ohio, Louie Markwell of Morehead, Kentucky, Haskell and Violet Markwell of Olive Hill, Kentucky. One sister; Essie Risner of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. 21 Grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will sadly mourn his passing. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m Saturday, September 28th, 2013 in the chapel of the Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook, Kentucky with Bro. Warren Vanover officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott County Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 6:00-9:00 p.m Friday, September 27th, 2013, and after 9:00 a.m Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers are; Jason Markwell, Joseph Markwell, Kenneth Markwell, Christopher Leadingham, Chad Markwell, and Ben Markwell, Justin Lyons.
