Virginia Flannery
July 5, 1935 - October 28, 2014
Virginia May Bowling-Flannery (you probably knew her as "Ginny"), 79, of Sandy Hook, Kentucky entered eternal life Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. She was born to the late Willie Ransom Bowling and Ethel Howard Bowling, July 5, 1935 in Elliott County, Kentucky. She was married to the late Walthan Dale Flannery and they lived together on Neal Howard's Creek for many years. In 1953, Virginia completed her State Homemaker's Degree under the guidance of Pauline Adkins. Upon graduation from Sandy Hook High School, she attended Business College in Louisville, Kentucky. Virginia accomplished many goals in life; however, her greatest accomplishment was her devotion to her children and family. Washington Irvin said it best, "A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when troubles thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.' Virginia was of the Apostolic Pentecostal Faith and attended the Neal Howard's Creek Community Church. Her endearing spirit is carried on by her two children; Tina Atkins (Sam) of Ashland, Kentucky, Michael Flannery of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; two grandchildren: Austin Atkins (Ashlee) of Concord, North Carolina, Brittany Stewart (Caleb) of Ashland, Kentucky; one great grandchild: Cohen Reed Stewart of Ashland, Kentucky. Virginia is survived by: Herbert Bowling (Grace) of Bowling Green, Florida; Bonnie Horton (Nickey) of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; Willard Bowling (Pam) of Canton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by: Russell Bowling (Della) of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; Geneva Criss (Calvin) of Canton, Ohio. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness. Friends and family may visit from 11;00-1;00 Saturday, November 1, 2014 until the service hour at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 1;00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014 in the Chapel of Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home with Brother Daniel Criss officiating. Burial will follow in the Bowling-Todd Cemetery on Neal Howard's Creek in Sandy Hook, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Hospice Center of Ashland, Kentucky.
