Lewis Edwin Dickerson

September 17, 1937 - February 8, 2009

Lewis Edwin Dickerson, age 71, of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning, February 8, 2009, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, after a long battle with cancer, with his loving family at his bedside. Mr. Dickerson was born September 17, 1937, in Elliott County, Kentucky, a son of the late Vernon and Myrtle Ferguson Dickerson. He was preceded in death by his first wife of twenty-seven years, Effie Jean Boggs Dickerson. A grandson, Austin Allen Ison. Three brothers, Leslie “Junior” Dickerson, Donald B. Dickerson and Elmo Dickerson. Lewis has been a member of the Laurel Gorge Enterprise Baptist Church since 1957, and sang in the church since he was nineteen years old. He spent his entire life serving the Lord and singing, first with The Brown Ridge Quartet and then with The Dickersons. He was a dedicated worker for the Lord and very active in his church. He loved, served and praised the Lord every day. He was retired from Union Boiler where he worked as a supervisor and was a member of the Carpenters Local #472. He is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Loretta Skaggs Dickerson. Two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Mitch Oney of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Betty and Jeff Flaugher of Grayson, Kentucky. Two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Clay and Bonita Jo Ison of Bruin, Kentucky, Roy Irvin and Amy C. Ison of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. One stepdaughter, Tammy Weddington of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Ten grandchildren, Chris and Hilary Porter of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Kelly and Lisa Porter of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Rocky and Lisa Horton of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Brittany Fultz of Ashland, Kentucky, Adam Weddington, Daniel Weddington, Joshua Clay and Sarah McDaniels all of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Lovie Clay Ison of Bruin,Kentucky, Alexandria Adams of Van Lear, Kentucky and Shelby Ison of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Seven great-grandchildren, Ali Porter, Chase Porter, Colin Porter, Kade Ison, Jaden Ison, Caleb McDaniels and Hannah McDaniels. Three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Louise Dickerson of Grafton, Ohio, Lionel and Goldie Dickerson, Clavis and Edith Dicikerson all of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Two sisters, Loretta Gilliam and Loverta Dickerson both of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. He also leaves behind a host of other family members and friends. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying; neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21-4. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at the Laurel Gorge Enterprise Baptist Church in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, with Brother Reggie Dickerson and Brother Clyde Eugene Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook. Kentucky. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and until the service hour Thursday, at the church. Chris Porter, Kelly Porter, Rocky Horton, Joshua Clay McDaniels, Lovie Clay Ison, Adam Weddington and Daniel Weddington will serve as pallbearers. David Lykins, Von Kiser, Leroy Stevens and William Waddell will serve as honorary pallbearers. Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook, Kentucky is in charge of all arrangements.
