Wayne Whitt

Wayne Whitt, age 84, of (Big Gimlet) Elliott County, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord Friday, August 09, 2024. Mr. Whitt was born January 15, 1940 in Olive Hill, Kentucky a son of the late Roy and Lela Maggard Whitt. Wayne was a born again Christian and was a member of Upper Bruin Enterprise Baptist Church and was retired from Armco Steel Inc. in Ashland, he served his country in the United States Army spending time in Germany and was so proud of that, also he was a 56 year member of Hepburn Masonic Lodge #576 F. & A.M. On January 01, 1966 he married the love of his life Eithel Marie Waddell Whitt, together they worked diligently making a life together, their home was always open to their family, nieces, nephews and friends it was a natural way of expressing their love to them all. Countless trips of vacations to Florida with their best friends Jack and Jean Maggard, trap shooting, deer hunting, and grouse hunting was some of the best times often mentioned. But the family circle wasn’t complete for them as they longed for a child of their own and Steven Wayne came along, and what a special time it was for them. Always known to be Mr. Green Thumb he could raise something to grow on a rock and have success. How he loved to fish, too many hours to count he has spent on Grayson Lake at Big Gimlet, Caney and Bruin with his fishing buddies Willis Porter and Junior Lewis. He loved visiting with his brother James, and going to quarrel with Mark Allen and Serena in later years was his daily visitors. As time and age came along life changes came also, when Eithel became ill and wasn’t with him every day, his sparkle for life seemed to diminish, and his own health deteriorated with Alzheimer’s, he no longer found the pleasure in life he once knew. How he loved his grandkids they each had a special place in his heart. He was a UK Wildcat man all the way, loved army movies, westerns, especially Sargent York, Bat Masterson, and the Lone Ranger, a proud and strong Democrat who had no problem voicing his opinion. He is going to be missed and already is. Bro. Russell Griffith once said maybe just maybe there would be a golden fishing rod in heaven and a lake so full of fish for eternity and if so, we hope he hooks the biggest one yet. Thank you Lord for giving us the opportunity to know this gentle man, and Private Whitt thank you for your service to our country soldier. In addition to his parents he is proceded in death his by two brothers; Kenneth Whitt, and Oscar Whitt. Along with his loving wife of 58 years he is survived by one son; Steven Wayne Whitt “Samantha”, three brothers; James Whitt, Lonnie Whitt, Ronnie Whitt “Linda”, five sisters; Mary Skaggs, Rose Mae Rowe, Geneva Duncan “Arville”, Betty Duncan “Gary”, Shirley Setters “Paul, three grandchildren; Cody Whitt, Tommy Whitt, Victoria Whitt, three bonus grandchildren; Bryalee, Laynee, Kolmen, one sister in law; Blanche Reed; two special caretakers; Ricky Cox, Junior Isaac, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends whom will sadly mourn his passing. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Upper Bruin Enterprise Baptist Church, on Rt. 409 in Elliott County, Kentucky with Bro. Brian Flannery, Bro. Reggie Dickerson, and Bro. Tim Porter officiating. Burial will follow at the Whitt Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky. Friends may visit from 11:00 am Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Upper Bruin Enterprise Baptist Church until the hour of service. Serving as pallbearers will be Masonic Lodge Brothers. Masonic Rites and Military Graveside Rites will be conducted at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: Masonic Homes Kentucky 3701 Frankfort Ave. Louisville, KY 40207
