Roscoe Junior Lewis

Brother Roscoe (Junior) Lewis age 77 of Isonville, Kentucky sailed away to his heavenly home Saturday evening July 11, 2009. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and family who were all so very precious to him. Brother June was born February 8 ,1932 in Morgan County, Kentucky a son of the late Roscoe and Vada Barker Lewis. Brother June is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years; Lorene Ferguson Lewis who was his “Hearts Bouquet” .Also his beloved children; Patty {Lewis} and Michael Fannin, Roger Lewis, Rodney and Jennifer {Gilliam} Lewis, and Ronald and Peggy {Young} Lewis. Four grandsons; Donnie and Elisha {Laney} Fannin, Joshua Adam Lewis, Nathan Scott Lewis, and Lucas Gilliam. One great- granddaughter; Reliegh N’Shell Fannin all of Isonville, Kentucky. Five brothers; Marion Lewis of Gary, Indiana, Darius Lewis of Isonville, Kentucky, Estill Lewis of Hillsboro, Ohio, Fred Andy Lewis of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Ballard Lewis of Rennsalaer, Indiana. Two sisters; Clotine {Lewis} Gilliam of Isonville, Kentucky and Elsie {Lewis} Lawhone of Dunedin, Florida. One brother in-law; Graydon Sloas, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters; Lillie {Lewis} Sloas and Beatrice Lewis. One brother; Harold Dean Lewis. Brother June worked hard for his family, early as a laborer, then in the fall of 1972 he began working in the logging industry along side his son Roger – as well as all of his boys and grandsons at one time or another up until his retirement in 2000. First and foremost Brother June was a born again old time Christian, who adored his family, loved his church family, as well as his friends and neighbors. His primary goal in life was to make sure that as many people as possible made preparations for a home in heaven, Brother June began his journey to heaven on September 7, 1966 he was baptized September 11, 1966 the good Lord called him to preach November of 1966. He remained faithful to the task for forty-three years never compromising his beliefs, but stood firm on the word of God, though not always popular. Brother June listened to what God told him to say and do, popularity, ambition and worldly recognition had no room in his spiritual walk nor his everyday life. His main concern was getting people ready for a heavenly home. Also he often said, “I want to take as many as I can with me, where we can go live forever, and ever and never die”. Brother June and Sister Lorene became members of the Rocky Branch Church on September 16, 1966 and remained members until its closing in 2003. He and Lorene then joined the Wallowhole Independent Baptist Church where he pastored for over twenty-nine years during his Christian life. He served many of the churches in Elliott County as well as Lawrence County. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m Tuesday, July 14, 2009 in the chapel of the Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home with Brother Sam Ison, Brother Russell Griffith, Brother Gary Sparks, and his son Brother Ronald Lewis officiating. Singers will be Brother and Sisters in Christ; Donna Gillum, Gary and Sue Sparks. Burial will follow in the Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m Monday, July 13, 2009 and anytime before the service hour Tuesday at the Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home. Donnie Fannin, Joshua A. Lewis, Nathan Scott Lewis, Lucas Gilliam, Shannon Ison, and Shannon Holbrook will serve as pallbearers. Dean Laney, William Maxie, Arvil Stephens, Estill Brickey, Chandler Brickey, Proctor Johnson, Roger Ison, and June’s “little buddy” Lucas Ison, and Gene Keaton. Will serve as honorary pallbearers.
