Larry A. Bays

Larry A. Bays age 69 of Grayson, formerly of Sandy Hook, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 03, 2016 at his residence after an extended illness with cancer. Mr.. Bays was born August 15, 1946 in Elliott County, Kentucky a son of the late Lake Arthur and Mary Watson Bays, Other than his parents Larry is preceded in death by one grandson; James M. Freeman III, two brothers; Johnny Bays, McArthur "Mac" Bays. Three sisters; Wilma Loretta Rumple, Mable Stephens, and Nannie Lee Sloas. Larry started working with his dad as a young 13 year old boy. As a young man he built homes and tool dressing in the oil fields. On November 08, 1964 Larry was united in marriage to the love of his life Phyllis Gilliam Bays keeping a union of commitment for 51 years of marriage. He retired from local 472 of Ashland, Kentucky after 35 years of dedicated service. 30 years of Larry's career was dedicated to Ceco Corporation in Cincinnati, Ohio. After retirement he started working for Manning Reality at Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Larry was a child of God and a member of Watson Enterprise Baptist Church for the past 11 years. He let his light shine thru singing, preaching, holding revivals and helping in any revival that called upon him. He also had a radio program for 25 years on Sundays. He was a member of Hepburn Masonic Lodge #576, Free and Accepted Masons in 2006. He took great pleasure in helping the elderly or anyone in need. Among his many accomplishments and achievements he was a Kentucky Colonel an honorary commission given by the State of Kentucky for the services and work for the advancement of Kentucky. In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 daugters whom he loved deeply; Tina Louise Ratliff and Pamela Renea Cagle both of Ashland, Kentucky. Mary Stephaine Banks and spouse Bryant. Six beautiful granddaughters and one great grandson. Two sisters; Martha Bays and Betty Claire, along with a host of extended family members and many friends who will sadly mourn his passing. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 06, 2016 in the chapel of Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook with Bro. Franklin Gillum and Bro. Rodney Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow in the Watson Family Cemetery. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 05, 2016 and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the service hour at the funeral home. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the Hepburn Masonic Lodge #576 F & AM. Serving as pallbearers are Christopher Gilliam, Wayde Gilliam, Tim Gibson, Jim Gibson, and Terry Sloas, Bobby Lewis, and Arthur Lewis. Acting as honorary pallbearers are Jerry Wayne Sloas, Kenneth Clair, Clavis Dickerson, Rodney Gilliam, Eugene Dickerson, and Donnie Roller. www.waddellandwhitt.com
