James Kendall Rice

James Kendall (Jimmy K.) Rice age 64 of Sandy Hook, Kentucky passed away Saturday, July 08, 2023 at UK Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Mr. Rice was born August 22, 1958 in Ashland, Kentucky a son of the late James Alfred and Lyda Irene Kendall Rice. Jimmy was of the Baptist faith, retired from Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 521 in Huntington, West Virginia, he also served on the Soil Conservation Board, Elliott County Extension District Board, Official member of 4-H Extension Council, Chairman of Elliott County 4-H Shooting Sports, 20 plus years as Coach of Shooting Sports, a member of Hepburn Masonic Lodge #576, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and farming. Jimmy had a love for the youth in the community inspiring those to pursue their interest in marksmanship and beyond. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother and sister in-law; Rev. Billy T. and Juanita Rice. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years; Melissa Horton Rice of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. One son and daughter in-law; Courtney Allen and Susan Rice of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. One daughter and son in-law; Candi Paige and Lance Jones of Hager Hill, Kentucky. Grandchildren; Skylar Howard, Isaiah and Chloe Rice, Braydon Rice, Gatlin Jones, and Bodee Jones. One brother; Bobby and Judie Rice of Columbia, Kentucky, two special sister in-laws; Fern Rice of Fleming County, Kentucky, and Kimberly Horton of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Nieces and Nephews; Ashley and Howard Stephens, Amberee and Byron Livers, Teresa and Athene Bowling, Marianne and Chris McGlone, and Mason Horton along with a host of great nieces and nephews, extended family, neighbors, and many friends who will mourn his passing. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Whitt & Sons Chapel with Bro. Chris Dickerson and Bro. Scott Litton officiating. Burial will follow in the Bowling- Todd Cemetery on Neal Howards Creek Rd. The Rice family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the funeral home with a Masonic service performed by his brothers from Hepburn Masonic Lodge #576 at 7:00 p.m. Serving as pallbearers are; Terry Holbrook, Roger Mayse, Lance Jones, Braydon Rice, Isaiah Rice, Jake Ison, Brandon Adkins, and Grant Lyon.
