Hershell B. Fannin

Hershell B. "H.B" Fannin age 86 of Sandy Hook, Kentucky passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Carter Nursing & Rehab in Grayson, Kentucky. Mr. Fannin was born September 7, 1939, in Elliott County, Kentucky a son of the late Elder Rufus Allen and Rutha Belle Skaggs Fannin. H.B was of the Baptist faith; he proudly served in the U.S Army and retired as mechanic and was a bus driver for the Elliott County Board of Education. He enjoyed working on vehicles, woodworking, traveling out west and tinkering on anything. He also loved a good cup of coffee and showing people how to build and fix things. He loved his family dearly and took great pride in them. He always loved to joke and prank with everyone. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his grandchildren who thought there was no one like Papaw. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Alice, Etna, Esta Lou, Bernice, Ruth and infant Willadean. Brothers; Cornelious Pearlman (WWII), Rufus Allen, Jr. Bryant Dewayne (Vietnam), Daril, and Barton. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-two years; Ida Simmons Fannin, Children; Curt Fannin, Melissa Fannin, Eric Fannin (Jaime), Michelle Boggs (Rick), Butch Simmons (Missy), Jamie Simmons (Angie). Grandchildren; April, Michael, Samantha, Amanda, Danielle, Chandra, Emilee, Lindsey, and Brooklynn. Great Grandchildren; Jaysten, Ameliya, Jeffery Mikah, Malachi, Jackson, Talbot, Taide, Emry, Raylee and a baby boy due in November. Siblings; Sherry Griffith, Tony Fannin, and Phillip Fannin (Donna), One sister in-law; Pauline Gray Fannin along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Whitt & Sons Funeral Home Chapel 1260 North Ky 7 Sandy Hook, Kentucky 41171 with Bro. Shannon Maggard and Bro. Mark Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook with military graveside rites conducted by Elliott County VFW Post#11428. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025, and after 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home until the service hour. Serving as pallbearers are Rick Boggs, Kevin Griffith, Bart Lane Fannin, Ryan Rayburn, Nathan Riggsby, Marce Fannin, and Logan Meade. Serving as honorary pallbearers are April Sheehy, Samantha Boggs, Amanda Rayburn, Danielle Robinson, Chandra Brammer, Emilee Riggsby and Lindsey Simmons.
