Hazel Mae Gilliam

Hazel Mae Caldwell Gilliam age 94 of Sandy Hook Ky, went home to be with the lord on February 6th, 2024. She was born on November 27, 1929 to the late Thomas and Lona Caldwell in Salyersville, Ky. She was a Christian and loved the Lord. She attended Watson Enterprise Church and Wells Creek. She loved all of her church family. Hazel worked at the Roscoe School as a cook and she worked on their family farm and garden. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Rullie Gilliam, 3 brothers, Jim Caldwell, Robert Caldwell, Fred Caldwell one sister; Catherine Williams and 2 half sisters Anna Lou Caldwell Smith, Lottie Cole, 2 daughters Louise Peters, Shirley Mayo and 1 son, Jerry Gilliam. She is survived by 1 half brother Sam Caldwell and 1 half sister Peggy Poe. Sons Calvin Gilliam of Morehead, Johnny (Kathy) of Wilmington, OH, David (Trish) of Sandy Hook Ky, and Sam (Kay) Williams (nephew who she considered a son), of WV, 2 daughters, Phyllis Bays of Grayson Ky, and Tammy (Bernerd) Moore of Sandy Hook Ky. Hazel and Rullie had 29 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and 39 great great grandchildren, who she loved as her own and made each feel special. Hazel’s family was her life. As a homemaker, she taught her family the importance of love and family. Cooking and caring for her family was her life, but it didn’t stop there. While caring for her family, the love she had to share spilled out into the community. Everyone who knew her, loved her charismatic spirit. She has now gone from being our angel on earth, to now being one of Gods angels. Watch over us mom and mamaw. You will always be loved and missed immensely. Thank you to St. Clair Hospice and her very special caregiver Rachel. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Whitt & Sons Funeral Chapel with Bro. Barry Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilliam Cemetery on Rt 173. Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m until 9:00 p.m. Saturday, and after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Riggsby, Dakota Sloas, Jerry Wayne Sloas, Fred Roseberry, Jason Gilliam, and Daniel Williams. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Bernard Moore, Chris Gilliam, Wayde Gilliam, Kyle Sloas, Rusty Gilliam, Travis Roseberry, and Bryant Banks.
