Hazel Cox

Hazel Skaggs Cox, age 98, of Olive Hill, Kentucky passed away Saturday, October 05, 2024 at her residence. Mrs. Cox was born July 29, 1926 in Elliott County, Kentucky a daughter of the late Johnnie Lee and Pearl Goodman Skaggs. In addition to her parents she is proceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years; Oscar Cox, four brothers; John Will Skaggs, Ray Skaggs, Kenneth Bert Skaggs, Danny Aldon Skaggs, six sisters; Eleanor Smith, Bessie Skaggs, Ethel Cox, Darlene Cox, Edna Kittle, and Ruby Thornsberry. Hazel was a Christian and attended Three Pines Freewill Baptist Church and later attended Stark Church. She was a hard worker and held many jobs during her lifetime, she was a farmer, delivered mail on horseback, ran Cox’s Grocery alongside her husband on 504, drove a school bus for many years, also worked at the sewing factory. Hazel never left the house without looking her best, she liked her jewelry. She also enjoyed quilting, flowers, picking apples, cooking and was famous for her chicken and dumplings and molasses cookies. She was very family oriented and couldn’t wait to get her hands on any baby that came through the door, spending time with family and friends is what she loved most of all. She is survived by three sons; Wendall Wilson Cox (Kim) of Olive Hill, Kentucky, David Ricky Cox of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Jerry Dewayne Cox (Rita) of Olive Hill, Kentucky, one daughter; Linda Joyce Knott of Columbus, Ohio, ten grandchildren; Shelly Montenaro, David Knott, Dakota Cox (Jackie), Brock Cox (Savanna), Talonna Blevins (Scotty), Nathan Cox (Jennifer), Kenny Cox (Donna), Shawna Lemaster (Randy), Sydnie Porter (Zach), Kansas Cox, twenty four great grandchildren; Mia, Makayla, Quintin, Jersey, Kylie, Peyton, Aubrey, Cory, Kendra, Emily, Malinda, Gwyn, Sylas, Oliver, Dane, Leah, Trip, Zoey, Ben, McKenzie, Caleb, Priscilla, Adeline, Hazelena, three great great grandchildren; Ava, Kye, Landen, along with a host of extended family and friends whom will sadly mourn her passing. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Whitt & Sons Funeral Chapel in Sandy Hook, Kentucky with Bro. Gary Sparks and Bro. Brian Flannery officiating. Burial will follow in the Skaggs Cemetery on Skaggs Flat Road, in Elliott County, Kentucky. Friends may visit at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 09, 2024 at Whitt & Sons Funeral Chapel and after 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2024 until the hour of service. Serving as pallbearers will be; David Knott, Kenny Cox, Kansas Cox, Dakota Cox, Brock Cox, Nathan Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be; Carson and Marsha Sparks, Wayne and Rhea Barker, Millard and Lyda Skaggs.
