Danny Ray Penix

Danny Ray Penix age 74 of Sandy Hook, Kentucky passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Mr. Penix was born November 15, 1951, in Morgan Co, Kentucky a son the late Smith, Jr. and Imojean Johnson Penix. Danny was a born again Christian and a faithful member of the Laurel Gorge Enterprise Baptist Church. He was a retired carpenter with Carpenters Local #472, a thirty-five-year member of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Department, he enjoyed gardening, watching hummingbirds, his flowers especially his rose bushes, farming, machinery, and pranking others when he could. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two nephews: Joseph Penix, and Wesley Penix. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years; Diana Elliott Penix, one daughter and son in-law; Stefanie and Logan Markwell, two sons; Ashley Penix, Mauricio Penix all of Elliott County, Kentucky, one sister and brother in-law, Debbie and Randall Jenkins of Salyersville, Kentucky, two brothers and sisters in-law; Jeff and Judy Penix, Terry and Beverly Penix all of West Liberty, Kentucky. Two grandchildren. Gabe Markwell and Sarah Grace Penix both of Elliott County, Kentucky, lovingly remembered by Danny are Marybel Salgado and Chris Elliott who he considered as his own family. Along with a host of extended nieces, nephews, church family members who will sadly mourn his passing. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. March 03, 2026, at the Laurel Gorge Enterprise Baptist Church with Bro. Rodney Gilliam, Bro. Josh Sloas, and Bro. Franklin Gillum officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. Monday, March 02, 2026, at Whitt & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Sandy Hook, and after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 03, 2026, at the Laurel Gorge Enterprise Baptist Church until the service hour. Serving as pallbearers are Dale Howard, Barry Stevens, Tennyson Gumm, Terry Holbrook, Zach Penix, and Chris Elliott. Honorary pallbearers are Sandy Hook Fire Department Members and Laurel Gorge Church Family.
