Anita Lynn Shaw

Anita Shaw age 71 of Grayson, Kentucky a beloved educator in the Elliott County School system for many years passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Baptist Health in Lexington, Kentucky. Mrs. Shaw was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 9, 1953, a daughter of the late Loretta (Cooney) and Oscar Voss. Anita dedicated her life to education, serving as a respected teacher at Elliott County High School. Her passion for teaching extended far beyond the classroom. She had strong bonds with her students, dedicating herself to their growth and well-being. She found immense joy in nurturing young minds and leaving a positive impact on their lives. Beyond her professional life, Anita possessed a vibrant spirit and a thirst for knowledge. She found comfort and inspiration in the beauty of nature, tending to her garden with meticulous care and capturing its wonders through her lens as an avid photographer brought her much joy. Another great passion was seeking out the serenity of the beach and the historical richness of many things around the world. Her adventurous spirit and continued expansion for understanding different cultures and enriching her life with new experiences is who she was. This insatiable curiosity never diminished, and she embraced lifelong learning with enthusiasm. Most precious to Anita was the time spent with her daughter, Nina, who was her pride and joy, her brightest star. Their bond was a testament to the deep love and unwavering support they shared. She will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication, her zest for life, and the profound impact she had on the countless lives she touched in and outside the classroom. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother: Charles Voss. She is survived by her daughter and partner; Nina Shaw (Halie Gibson) of Lexington, Kentucky. Two brothers; Evan Miller and Bryn Miller, two sisters; Alyssa Knight and Adrienne Miller along with a host of extended family, fellow co-workers, and students who will sadly mourn her passing. A service of remembrance with Eulogy by David Ray Gilliam will begin at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will begin Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Whitt & Sons Funeral Home Chapel 1260 North Ky 7 Sandy Hook, Kentucky.
